NEW ARTIST FINDS: P E A K S

7/29/15

Mad Props to our curator Goldenwolf for finding this new UK indie electronic chill-out act, PEAKS. With only three original songs to their name, Peaks is onto some special sort of sound. With a dash of indie-dance, a sprinkle of chill-out electronic soul (self-dubbed), and a touch of trip-hop, these guys have developed something unique and personal in a very short amount of time. It features minimal beats that keep you engaged and constantly change it up, with beautiful piano work and the voice of an angel. This is chillwave 2.0, chill but no waves. Can’t wait to see what else these two have in store for us.

P E A K S - EROS

The way lead singer (I can’t find on the internet whether it’s Ben Alexander Walter or Nathaniel Harwood) croons, “Let your love flow lyrically,” making this track sound like a lost Alt-J tune. Chill as fuck, yet complicated beats underneath, this song is meant to be the anthem of a Coachella. I can’t wait until we talk about Peaks in 2016 the same way we talk about Alt-J and Tycho now. These cats are onto something serious.

P E A K S - FEELING

These two beautiful boys make really beautiful music. It's the kind of music that you can go to sleep to, but not the kind of music that puts you to sleep. Feeling ramps up the dance vibes. Here we sway out, shuffle our feet and gaze deeply into the eyes of our loved one.

P E A K S - LOOPER

This track takes a long ambient build and patiently warps into a funky baseline that really gets grooving about half-way through. I just thought this was a third pleasant chilled tune, but I was quickly corrected as I started dancing in my seat, super pleasantly surprised by this bands change of direction and further developing scope. With UK garage drums, swirling vocals and funk basslines, these guys are no genre that I’ve ever heard before, and that makes me VERY excited. It gets psychedelic and spacey. My kinda shit.

About Kurt Kroeber

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
