Best Songs Ever: Goldfrapp - Strict Machine

12/11/12

In 2003, Goldfrapp released the dazzling and deliciously sexy “Strict Machine,” a single which served to cement their status as one of the most inventive and plain thrilling electro-pop artists of the 21st century.  "Strict Machine" – which is lifted from the London band's second album, Black Cherry - was a #1 hit on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart and in 2004, was awarded the coveted Ivor Novello award for Best Dance Single.

Not bad for a track about neuroscience experiments on lab rats...

Fun fact! This song reportedly contains backmasking (or a secret message when played in reverse, for the n00bs among you).

Apparently, if you spin “Strict Machine” backwards, you will aurally witness front woman, Alison Goldfrapp, well...enjoying an orgasbomb while singing, “Something's new, I love you, I love you.”

But we will leave it up to you perverts with nothing better to do to confirm that one for us!:

In 2011, Suzi Quatro recorded a chugging cover of "Strict Machine" for her 2011 album, In the Spotlight. Listen closely - the guitar-drenched reinvention incorporates lyrics from Quatro's #1 stomper, "Can the Can," no doubt in a bid to draw attention to the similarities between the two tracks.

So...tell us. Who wore this top song better?

Lyrics:

I get high on a buzz
Then a rush when I'm plugged in you
I connect
When I'm flush
You get love when told what to do

Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Cover me in you

I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine

I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine

When you send me a pulse
Feel a wave of new love
Through me
I'm dressed in white noise
You know just what I want
So please

Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Cover me in you

I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine

I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine
