PREMIERE: IVY NATIONS - DISINTEGRATE
Lucky for us, we get to welcome the summer season with Dublin indie band Ivy Nations. We’ve had the fortune of covering their previous material, You Are The Center of Me, and naturally we are so stoked to give you the first taste of their latest single, Disintegrate. If you are looking for an explosive indie rock sound, then look no further.
Best New Tracks
BEST NEW SONGS: DOG ORCHESTRA - HOTEL
Swedish indie band DOG ORCHESTRA is back with their brand new track, Hotel, and we cannot wait to bring it to you today. The band’s ominous vocals and enchanting synth work truly shines on this track. Hotel is a moody synth-driven 4:39 with menacing vocals that are beautifully captivating.
BEST NEW UNPLUGGED: DENM - LIT
DENM is a brand new Los Angeles-based artist/songwriter/producer that has won us over completely, and we’re super excited to bring you another side of his unique sound. He just released an acoustic stripped-down version of his latest hyped up track Lit, and we’re totally loving the song’s energetic yet chilled out vibe that’s perfect for the warming weather.
BEST NEW SONG: BECK - WOW
Apparently in between winning Grammys and making surprise appearances on Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour, BECK was busy in the studio crafting some serious party-starting tracks. WOW is his latest track, and it’s a hip hop-inspired throwback to his Odelay-roots. Odelay turns 20 this month, by the way…feelin’ old yet?
BEST NEW SONGS: THE STROKES - OBLIVIUS
The Strokes are back! Yay! Oblivius is off of their brand new EP, Future, Present, Past. It’s their first release since 2013’s Come Down Machine. The track kicks in right away with signature Strokes-sounding guitar, memorable bass lines, and drummer Fab Moretti’s almost drum machine-like beat. It still has that charm that we all fell in love with, yet doesn’t feel stale.
BEST NEW COVER: BETTY WHO - I LOVE YOU ALWAYS FOREVER
Most of us will always have a soft spot for those classic guilty-pleasure songs. So when I heard that the super cool electropop singer-songwriter Betty Who covered Donna Lewis’ hit song, I Love You Always Forever, I couldn’t wait to listen! Betty Who was the perfect contender to cover this nostalgic classic.
BEST NEW SONGS: BIBI BOURELLI - HALLELUJAH
Understandably hyped-up new singer-songwriter Bibi Bourelli caught our attention last year when she was discovered to be the mastermind behind Princess RiRi's fiery single, Bitch Better Have My Money. This time it’s a family affair as she’s teamed up with her Uncle Carl on keys and her dad on guitar, as they cover the classic Leonard Cohen song, Hallelujah.
BEST NEW TRACKS: FLUME - LOSE IT FT. VIC MENSA
One of my most anticipated releases of 2016 was Australian producer Flume’s sophomore LP, Skin. My initial runs through it have left me a bit dry, although I’ve opened up to it a little more with each subsequent listen. Lose It, which features Chicago emcee Vic Mensa, is a perfect example of this. At first I thought the song was goofy and borderline satirical. Now, I can’t stop listening to it.
BEST NEW SONGS: DEATH GRIPS - GIVING BAD PEOPLE GOOD IDEAS
Giving Bad People Good Ideas might be the most accessible Death Grips tune to date, although it’ll still sound too aggressive and grating to those who’ve yet to acquire the taste. The track starts with Clementine Creepy crooning the infectious hook. From there a burst of raw energy takes over as Ride takes the mic and a black metal beat takes over and everything threatens to dissolve into chaos.
