BEST NEW INDIE POP: KACEY HILL - KEEP ME SANE

6/29/17

It’s all good on the third single from G.O.O.D. music protege Kacy Hill, “Keep Me Sane.”

Kacy Hill’s a huge name and a major talent in today’s most cutting-edge hip-hop/R&B - you just don’t know it yet. Despite having features with some of the biggest rappers in the land - Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, and Cashmere Cat - thanks to her affiliation with Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music, Hill is just about to drop her very first long-player, under her own name.

Hill moved up the ranks, starting as an American Apparel model to become a back-up dancer for Kanye West’s Yeezus tour, where Yeezy took an interest in the stunning, precocious young redhead. So much so that Kanye agreed to solely produce her debut LP, Like A Woman, out June 30 on G.O.O.D. Music, of which “Keep Me Sane” is the third single.

KACY HILL - KEEP ME SANE

Hill comes from a classical music background, having grown up playing woodwinds in her native Arizona, which perhaps explains the intricate arrangements. Weightless bass synth creeps in like a sonata opening, setting the mood, only to have the bottom drop out to a stripped-down skeleton of beats and voice. “Keep Me Sane”s beat is one of the smoothest, sultriest grooves so far this year, which has been short on slow jams and lover’s anthems. Staccato strings come in at the halfway mark, sounding like some Future Pop recital in Versailles.

Hill sings of a love/romance/relationship that serves as a foundation, a guiding light and source of sanity in a mad, mad world. For those with love in their lives, perhaps you can relate? For music lovers like us here at We Are: The Guard (and you all, most likely), music is this bedrock, this calming voice, a force for sanity in crazy times. Listen to “Keep Me Sane,” and let Kacy Hill’s voice wash over you like a cool breeze. You will fall in love, just in time for Like A Woman
