BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 37 PART 2
Still messing around with the new iMessage features on iOS 10? Or did you finally give your fingers a break and watched as Kid Cuddi’s glorious Twitter rant unfolded? (If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and google it.) Either way, we advise that you stop what you’re doing right now because we have even more of the absolute best new indie pop of the week! We have the latest from Dagny, Leon Else, Felix Snow, Gemini, and more. So go grab some headphones (oh I’m sorry-- should I say AirPods?) and read on to experience part 2 of the best indie pop of the week!
BIG BABY D.R.A.M. - CASH MACHINE PROD. BY RICKY REED
We’re kicking off part 2 with D.R.A.M.’s infectious new track, “Cash Machine.” It’s produced by Ricky Reed, and the uplifting piano-driven track will have you motivated to go out into the world get some money. His easy-going flow and the uplifting beat will be stuck in your head for days (and you won’t even be mad about it).
LEON ELSE - BLACK CAR
Things get a little unsettling (but…kind of sexy?) with new comer LEON ELSE and his brand new track, “Black Car.” The British singer’s falsetto croon will continuously send chills down your spine, while the raw beat and stripped-down instrumentals set the track’s sensual tone. The video itself is also worth checking out as it features a wonderfully weird car ride starring actress Suki Waterhouse.
SG LEWIS - MEANT TO BE
20 year old UK artist SG LEWIS is quickly turning heads with his soulful and striking sound. His new track, “Meant To Be,” is a smooth-grooving track with disco-style guitars, shiny electronics, and a groovy hi-hat-infused beat.
DAGNY - TOO YOUNG
When looking at the artwork for this single, I doubt I was the only one who had to do a double take thinking that was Lana Del Rey’s Ultra Violence — Turns out this is almost the complete opposite as it’s Dagny’s wonderfully uplifting new single, “Too Young.” If you don’t already know by now (which you should), Dagny is a new Norwegian songstress who we’re totally loving, and this new track is just what we needed to get us through the week! This is definitely one of my favorite new songs that I’ll be coming back to again and again.
GEMINI - THE TURNAROUND
Thomas Slinger aka GEMINI is about to release his brand new album Wanderlust, and we’re totally loving his new single from the album, “The Turnaround.” Strong pop-friendly vocals keep you captivated throughout its almost 3 minute duration, while epic and sweeping electronics, shimmering synths, and calming snap-filled beats keep you swaying.
OLIVIA O’BRIEN - TRUST ISSUES
Newcomer OLIVIA O’BRIEN kicks off her track with a fiery passion on her relatable and charmingly real new single, “Trust Issues.” “A good girl is better than millions of bitches/ but one bitch can leave you in millions of stitches” she declares in an awesomely unapologetic tone, while skittering beats and airy electronics allow the track’s instrumentals to have a light vibe. It’s definitely a stand out track that I am sure will gain her some well-deserved attention.
FELIX SNOW - TURN UP (WITH YOUNG THUG)
Los Angeles-based producer FELIX SNOW has teamed up with YOUNG THUG on his hot new track, “Turn Up.” Despite it’s party-sounding title, the track is actually an almost mellow blend of ticking and winding beats, fuzzy synths, and Young Thug’s energetic and distinct vocals. It’s simply a solid track that you don’t want to miss.
CHERRYADE - HOUDINI
London’s CHERRYADE has totally won us over with her sassy n’ catchy new track, “Houdini.” Her attitude-packed flow is perfect for the synth-filled instrumentals and drum machine beats that will leave you wanting more.
LYON - GOLD DUST
LYON has struck electropop gold with her mystical new single, “Gold Dust.” Tons of shimmering synths, drum machine beats, and delicate vocals make her sound perfect for fans of artists like Robyn, and I cannot wait to check out more of her stuff!
FRENSHIP & EMILY WARREN - CAPSIZE
Electronic production duo FRENSHIP has teamed up with vocalist EMILY WARREN on their tropical-insured new single, “Capsize.” The track is off of their new EP Truce, and it’s a rhythm-heavy infectious track featuring Emily’s breathy vocals that blend together to create a wonderfully blissful 4 minutes. The video itself is also worth noting for its unique choreography that strangely suits the song wonderfully.
NORDE - MISSING YOU FEAT. LUCAS NORD
Today we’re closing things out with NORDE’s brand new single, “Missing You.” The Swedish producer has teamed up with singer LUCAS NORD on the track, and it’s a super catchy dance-inducing yet calming experience packed with pulsating synths, throbbing beats, and subtle electronics that will keep you coming back to this track when you need to start cooling down at the end of a long day.
So there you have it — all of the must-hear indie pop tracks of the week! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out part one and other BitCandy-approved indie pop over here!
