BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 35
Hey there fine looking people. You want to know what else is fine around here other than myself (haha), it’s today’s Best of Indie Pop brought to you by our awesome BitCandy staff and myself. In this week’s dose of not your typical pop songs, we will be looking into new music from some pretty spiffy artists that we are sure you will love and eat up. We spent hours laboring over this post, so please do enjoy irresponsibly the latest from Gryffin, Saint Motel, Sweaters, and a few more notable indie acts. Let’s get right down to business and open up a playlist full of serious fun.
MIIKE SNOW - MY TRIGGER (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
The trio Miike Snow has released yet another danceable catchy tune that carries a deeper meaning than one may think at first glance. “My Trigger” deals with sex and loads of it. It’s about liking sex, but having to keep it bottled up. It’s a song that builds up the pressure and explodes goodness, and by goodness I mean a release of vibrant energy.
SAFIA - OVER YOU
Australian duo Safia carries the similar electric vibes to that of Miike Snow. Safia’s music is very accessible. Those who tend to have a preference of dark pop will absolutely dig “Over You.” Infact, I’m willing to bet that their debut album Internal coming out September 9th is going to be an unexpected pleasurable listen.
CLIPPING. - AIR ‘EM OUT
Another album that will be releasing come this September 9th is Clipping.’s Splendor & Misery. Out of this world would be a perfect description of what we can expect to hear as his album is heavily inspired by some Sci-Fi. His single “Air ‘Em Out” is just a bite size taste of the massive sound that will be coming out of our headsets once we put his new record on.
GRYFFIN - WHOLE HEART
Gryffin has teamed up with indie artists Bipolar Sunshine to create the mega feel good single “Whole Heart.” The track is basically a much cooler way of saying that if you’re going do something you might as well do it big. From the little that I know about Gryffin, something about this track tells me that it signifies a turning point for the artist. It sounds like something big is about to happen.
SAINTMOTEL - MOVE
The first twenty six seconds of “Move” remind me of the intro for Saturday Night Fever. I keep waiting for John Travolta to pop out and start strutting down the sidewalk in those white tight bell bottoms. One listen to Saintmotel’s track and you want to trade in those hipster beardS for some feather hair and a mustache.
BRIDGIT MENDLER - ATLANTIS FT. KAIYDO
Have you ever heard of a sweeter voice greater than Bridgit Mendler’s? If you have, have you ever heard a voice so comforting than the one of Bridgits? This track is just so perfect. Beautiful lyrics sung by two talented artists, and a glass of the finest boxed wine make for an unforgettable listening experience.
SWEATER BEATS - BETTER FT. NICOLE MILLAR & IMAD ROYAL
There’s a chilling feeling that ran down my spine when I listened to “Better.” A big part of me wanted to fully immerse into the lyrics but yet I couldn’t help shake off the underlying iciness in the beat. The lyrics say that they want to make you better, but my gut tells me to run the other way. I believe Sweater Beats wanted this track to be somewhat of a toxic feel. I may be wrong but all I know is that I want some more of it.
DAN OWEN - MADE TO LOVE YOU
Holy cow. The pipes of Dan Owen are powerful enough to move mountains and bridge gaps between broken lovers. Here we can see a strong similarity to the late Jeff Buckley and a bit of Bruce Springsteen. There’s no such things as playing this track one too many times.
1999 IN ICELAND - DUTTY
You just might want to move everything snf clear up space, because “Dutty” is one track that will make you move what your momma gave you. This single is Guaranteed to take over your body. You ready to have your body feel some action?!
CRY WOLF - ANACHRONISM
We conclude today’s playlist with Cry Wolf’s hair raising single “Anachronism.” It’s a dazzling sound that showcases the solo artists talent and artistry. This dreamy soundscape display of how powerful a track really can be if it’s done right and if it holds meaning to something great. Take a listen for yourselves above and tell me it that this song doesn’t make you feel anything.
Thanks for tuning in to this week’s top ten indie pop songs. Be sure to spread the word on the acts above and if you happen to have any input for next week’s post feel free to drop your suggestions in the comments below. See you all soon. Happy listening.
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
