BEST ELECTRO MUSIC - WEEK 52 2014

12/23/14

Because it’s the Holiday Season we figured we’d load you all up with a mega-sized edition this week. Normally we only do ten songs, but it’s the holiday season and you deserve it. I mean it’s just a couple more songs, it’s not really a big deal. It’s not like we’re out there buying into the corporate consumerism getting each and every one of you an iTunes Giftcard. Did you know that the price of gas is so cheap right now to encourage more spending at the Christmas time? I’m gonna quit while I’m ahead. SONGS!

Holiday Gifts abound! New tracks from Zeds Dead, Rustie, R3HAB and Solidisco! I hope you enjoy!

JACK U - TAKE U THERE (FEAT. KIESZA) [ZEDS DEAD REMIX]

This week Jack U dropped "Take U There" remixes from some of the biggest names in dance music (Tchami, Felix Cartal, TJR, Vindata, Netsky and Tujamo) but it’s the Zeds Dead one that fucking POPS.  I’ve listened to their beautiful melodic dubstep bass over Kiesza’s absolutely gorgeous vocals 100 times in the past five days. It made me fall in love with a song I wasn’t feeling and single handedly won over my respect for Jack U. I had heard Zeds Dead premiere this song at Hard Day of the Dead and had waited patiently for them to release it. So so grateful this holiday season.

DOKO - BODY DRIP

Sorry y’all, we at BitCandy are the number one supporters of glitch-hip-pip-pop [yeah, that’s what we’re calling it]. Between Sophie, PC Music and now Doko we won’t stop dropping this weird shit on you. Don’t like it? Don’t care. Just keep listening until your ears work right.

AG COOK - BEAUTIFUL (RUSTIE EDIT)

That’s right. WE FUCKING LOVE Glitch-hip-pip-pop. PC Music head AG Cook’s track, "Beautiful," as remixed by this Scottish electronic hip hop producer adds so much legitimacy to the genre just as it needs it the most. This track, "Beautiful," just got a whole hell of a lot more Beautiful thanks to Rustie’s unique soundscapes and massive trap bass. Thank Lucky Me and their Holiday Advent Calendar for this Christmas present.

SOLIDISCO - CHOOSE

Solidisco are back with another reliable fun, funky disco gem. These guys constantly rock it. Here, Choose has got a fun vocal sample laid over groovy disco vibes. These guys are Solid. They are Disco. They are Solidisco. Jeez, I love puns.

ELEPHANTE - SHOOTING STARS (BAG RAIDERS COVER)

There aren’t many racks better than Bag Raiders’ 2009 BANGER, "Shooting Stars." This Elephante cover is really beautiful and a lot of fun, but honestly any excuse to listen to this song, I don’t care. Whether it be the original, a cover, remix, ringtone. It don’t matter.. Props to Elephante for bringing this track in front of a whole new set of ears. Let’s hope this encourages kids to listen to some more Bag Raiders. May I recommend Castles in the Air and Sunlight.

INFECTED MUSHROOM - KAZABUBU

I really wanted my blurb to just be “long live psytrance!” But I was utterly disappointed to hear the Kings of Israeli psytrance playing with Big Room like they were another generic act on the market. Of course that quickly fades in the second half of this preview as Kazabubu warps into something weirder, darker and glitchier. Okay, keep doing what you doing Mushies.

TCHAMI - PROMESSES FEAT. KALEEM TAYLOR (CALYX & TEEBEE REMIX)

Tchmai is poised to TAKE OVER in 2014. His Bass is so fat and unique and FUTURE. Hearing Calyx & TeeBee’s Drum & Bass remix of Promesses just furthers that belief for me. Hear how HUGE and unique his bass is and how suited it is for other people to come in and play with his stems and turn it into their own music, while still staying true to the original sounds? I fucking LOVE it.

OWL VISION - DAMNATION

Owl Vision releasing something here that lies directly in the middle of Dubstep and Gesaffelstein. Dark techno with so much BASSSS. Clearly the kids today are being raised by better and better music.

R3HAB & KSHMR - KARATE

R3HAB is one of the only main stage fools I can even stand in 2015 (Come on, it’s BASICALLY 2015). He stays true to the Dutch house roots that made him famous and consistently makes some of the bounciest big room there ever was. Don’t like his music? Doesn’t matter. Just mute this video and watch these sexy babes fight and shower and be sexy. Jesus Christ I’m so exploitive of women... Or this video is. Or I always was and this video is just bringing it out of me right now. Honestly, who cares?

JAMIROQUAI - VIRTUAL INSANITY (THE NOISY FREAKS REMIX)

It’s daunting to remix such a classic. The Noisy Freaks step in with utter confidence, completely unafraid to funk up one of the great funk classics. And they DELIVER. This remix is going to be a staple of the burgeoning funk community as it funking keeps getting bigger in 2015.

DAFT PUNK - HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER (LIVE @ ALIVE 2007) (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

Oh, Daft Punk you tricky sons of bitches. You release an official video of the greatest live music experience of all time from collected YouTube cellphone footage. JUST TOUR YOU MOTHERFUCKERS. STOP TEASING US AND TOUR AGAIN YOU FRENCH ROBOT FUCKS. I’m sorry.

SKRILLEX - DIRTY VIBE WITH DIPLO, CL & G-DRAGON

Who would have thought you could have made Dirty Vibe any cooler? This song is already so fun and unique on its own. Add verses from CL and G-Dragon, two of South Koreas biggest musicians, have them officially it and this song becomes next level. Goddamn Skrillex, why you so cool? Why you know everything that’s right even though no one else does? Who else is thinking of using South Korean rappers? Well Diplo…

SLOW KNIGHTS - WITHOUT YOU (ST∆RC∆DI∆N REMIX)

STARCADIAN got a funky little slow burner of a bassline on this track. Finding myself bobbing my head and shimmying my shoulders along with this track even hough it’s a lot lighter and more minimal than Starcadian’s usual fare… Not that that’s a bad thing [Seinfeld reference].

TOM SWOON FEAT. RUBY PROPHET - SAVIOR

I’ll always have a soft spot in my cold dead jaded heart for Uplifting Progressive House. For a boy who was raised on Swedish House Mafia, Dirty South and Avicii I really can’t snub my nose up at Tom Swoon. If only more music would be like this… the world would be a better place [like it was in 2011].

Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
